A child’s chance of surviving cancer depends on far more than medicine alone. It also depends on how early the disease is recognized, how well families understand the journey ahead, and whether the systems around them are strong enough to respond with urgency, compassion, and care. At Bless a Child Foundation, we are committed to creating that environment through awareness, education, and advocacy.

Awareness

For many families, a childhood cancer diagnosis comes with fear, confusion, and uncertainty. Through our Parent Support Groups, we create safe and supportive spaces where children and caregivers can share their experiences, voice their fears, and draw strength from others walking a similar path.
These moments of connection help families feel less alone and more equipped to face the realities of treatment.

We also provide clear, easy-to-understand information materials on topics such as the early warning signs of childhood cancer, treatment options, nutrition, side effects of medication, palliative care, and where to seek help. By making vital information accessible, we empower families with knowledge, restore confidence, and reduce the uncertainty that so often delays care.

Education

Beyond the hospital setting, we work within communities to raise awareness and promote earlier action. Through sensitization workshops and outreach efforts, we educate parents, caregivers, community leaders, and the public about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, the importance of early diagnosis, and the treatment services available.

This work is especially important in addressing deeply rooted myths and misconceptions. In many communities, childhood cancer is still misunderstood — sometimes believed to be caused by witchcraft, seen as contagious, or assumed to be untreatable. These beliefs can delay care and put children’s lives at even greater risk. Through compassionate education and open dialogue, we help communities replace fear and stigma with understanding, hope, and action.

Advocacy

Lasting change requires more than direct support for individual families. It requires stronger systems that ensure every child, regardless of where they come from or what their family can afford, has a fair chance at survival.

Bless a Child Foundation works alongside the Ministry of Health Uganda, the Uganda Cancer Institute, and partners across the public and private sectors to advocate for stronger, more equitable childhood cancer care. Our advocacy focuses on improving early diagnosis, expanding access to affordable medicines, reducing treatment abandonment, and promoting the integration of palliative and psychosocial care into national systems.

Through this work, we are not only supporting children in the present, we are helping to shape a future where no child is denied care because of poverty, misinformation, or a weak health system.
