When this happens, the family of the child on treatment has to incur the cost of purchasing the missing drugs from third-party pharmacies.

Many times the families are not in position to raise this money, which results in a child missing a critical treatment cycle or cycles. In other cases, machinery used for various diagnostic and treatment procedures at the hospitals break down and the cost of procuring these services has to be borne by the family of the sick child, stretching their resources to breaking point.
